dramAcum is a cultural association whose main aim is to develop Romanian contemporary drama and performing arts through national and international projects created by interdisciplinary teams. dramAcum was founded in 2010, while the dramAcum group met in 2001 when the 5 stage directors (Radu Apostol, Alexandru Berceanu, Gianina Cârbunariu, Ana Margineanu and Andreea Valean) were still students at the National University of Theatre and Cinema in Bucharest (UNATC). The dramAcum directors see the playwright as a member of the artistic team who develops the scenario of the performance together with all the artists involved (directors, actors, choreographers, set designers etc). The productions are usually inspired by the meeting of the artists with the different realities and themes of the Romanian society today. The group organized between 2001 and 2010 biennial contests for young Romanian playwrights, initiated translations of foreign contemporary drama, organized playwriting workshops and public readings, produced the performances based on new Romanian drama in co-production with independent stages or state theatres. The dramAcum group has developed some projects with similar companies and associations from abroad: France (Theatre Studio d’Alfortville), Bulgaria (36 Monkeys), Sweden (Dramalabbet), USA (Lark Theater), Turkey (GalataPerform).
